Why focus on plastics?

  • Plastic is inexpensive to manufacture, lightweight, durable, and strong. But, convenience comes with a price... too much being produced and too much being discarded.  The durability comes with a high price too. Plastics linger in the environment because they require high energy to photo degrade.
  • On a daily basis we are faced with questions about plastics:  Should I put my Nalgene bottle in the dishwasher?  Should I microwave my lunch in a plastic container.  Should I buy bottled water?
